The following technical sheet of the work was created by Professor Sandro Bellesi as part of the inventory of the paintings of the Fattoria Franceschini.
On the basis of the pictorial drafting and the style characters it is possible to assign the work to Elena Recco, daughter of the well-known painter Giuseppe, an artist specialized in the genre of still life, in particular in the creation of paintings with fish and marine animals in general. From the information taken from the biographies of Neapolitan artists written between the end of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries by Bernardo de 'Dominici, we learn that Elena Recco was much appreciated in life for her skills as a painter, so much so that she was called to work for a long time at the court of Spain. Works by this author are currently preserved in private collections, in the museums of Warsaw, Leeds and Moscow and in the Zarzuela palace in Madrid. In addition to the pictorial definition, typical of the painter's language is the arrangement of some animals, such as the pink fish in the lower right, recurring in various paintings by the artist.
