ceramic figure depicting the Buddhist monk Hotei, who lived in China between the 8th and 19th centuries. This statuette is an example of production from the Bizen kilns, among the oldest active in Japan, located in the current Okayama prefecture, in the southern part of the island of Honshu, the largest in the archipelago.
