A 15th-century princely villa, immersed in the olive groves of the Florentine hills, opens its doors on the last weekend of June to host an important private collection.
Fine period furnishings, illuminated by important Della Robbia majolica and silverware, ancient paintings, including a View of Florence attributed to Thomas Patch, similar to the one that can be admired from the loggia on the first floor. In the row of large halls on the ground floor, in a fascinating dialogue between ancient and modern that characterises the entire collection, one notices a rare wall clock from the end of the 16th century, celebrating the annexation of the Republic of Siena to the Duchy of Florence, placed next to a monumental 17th-century chest of drawers embellished with gilded bronze sculptural details, surmounted by a refined Moroccan mirror. A bronze sculpture by Igor Mitoraj, a unique piece, is placed on a Carthusian-inlaid 16th-century chest with a view of a turreted city. Works of art from the Italian and European 20th century alternate with classical furnishings: sculptures by Libero Andreotti, paintings by Marino Marini, Galileo Chini, Ernest Bieler. There is no shortage of book rarities such as a first edition by Giuseppe Zocchi, a series of twelve engravings by Carlo Lasinio and a beautiful edition of Raphael's Lodges in the Vatican (1772-1777).
As in all great houses, there are many curiosities and accessories in the countless rooms that are perfect for personalising any room: small furnishing accessories, refined sets of plates and glasses, knick-knacks, porcelain, carpets, antique and precious fabrics.
Contemporary lovers, on the other hand, will find an annexe furnished with modern furniture and enlivened by a colourful collection of Murano glass and rare turn-of-the-century posters.
Finally, in the beautiful Italian-style garden with a splendid view over the city, there is a vast assortment of vases, plants and curious accessories.
Visitors to the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday will be offered a tasty snack throughout the day.
