A bronze figure of Buddha in teaching gesture, Himalayan region, 19th–20th century

Cast in bronze with a dark patina and traces of green encrustation, the Buddha is shown seated in a relaxed posture on a lotus-style base, hands held in the teaching gesture. Stylized lion figures flank the base. The arched mandorla behind is decorated with incised motifs.
