A cricket jar, China, Qing dynasty, late 19th century

in black lacquered wood with red carved lacquer and gilt seal decorations, of oval form, the dark lacquered wooden body decorated in relief with red lacquer designs of fruiting branches and red medallions enclosing gilt seal inscriptions. The surface shows an aged patina and traces of use.
