Tammaro De Marinis was a great merchant and collector of ancient books, a distinguished scholar of the history of books and collector of ancient volumes, miniatures and bindings. His collecting activity took place mainly in Florence, where he resided in Villa Montalto al Salviatino. He was the promoter of «One Hundred Friends of the Book», an association founded in Milan in 1939 together with Ugo Ojetti and the Marchesa Gilberta Serlupi Crescenzi. Considered the prince of Italian bibliophiles of the century, in the post-war period he dedicated himself mainly to his work as a bibliographer. He was the intermediary of the major purchases of the Cini Foundation where part of his personal collection eventually also converged. Of particular note is his work on the virtual reconstruction of the heritage of the Aragonese Library of Naples, which was dispersed with the fall of the Aragonese; he managed to identify hundreds of books scattered throughout the world that had belonged to this library.
