Lot N. 127
Plasticatore fiorentino dell'inizio del XVIII secolo
Cosimo III de' Medici
oval painted stucco high-relief, some defects
cm 85x69
The following technical sheet of the work was created by Professor Sandro Bellesi as part of the inventory of the paintings of the Franceschini Farm.
The work is part of a series currently comprising six specimens, probably once made up of other pieces. This can be deduced from the fact that the characters depicted represent grand dukes and princes of the Medici family, usually depicted, in the early eighteenth century, in stucco medallions created as furniture for Tuscan noble residences. Derived from prototypes linked respectively to Giambologneschi originals and to the sphere of Giovan Battista Foggini, the three ovals, surrounded by eccentric frames always in neo-mannerist stucco, are to be referred to a Florentine sculptural workshop of the early eighteenth century, not specified at the time, perhaps linked to Antonio Montauti, a name to which reliefs with historical figures in stucco can be traced back.
